Kapuso Stars in Naga, Kaogma Festival 2011

Richard Gutierrez and the cast of Captain Barbell

NAGA CITY (May 30, 2011) – GMA 7 Kapuso star Richard Gutierrez, together with the cast of the Captain Barbell primetime action-adventure series, Michelle Madrigal, TJ Trinidad and Ervic Vijandre met their fans and the press in Naga City and joined the Kaogma Festival last Sunday, May 29, 2011.

The stars greeted their fans during the Kapuso Mall Show at SM City Naga Event Center at 3:00 pm.

The mall show was followed by a dinner and interview with the local press at Red Platter, Magsaysay Avenue.

Richard Gutierrez and Captain Barbell’s Edge

Richard Gutierrez has already visited Bicol a couple of times. “I have so many unforgettable experiences in Bicol. One is the first time I visited Bicol with my friends to see the volcano and try wakeboarding,” Gutierrez said.

According to Gutierrez, the return of the primetime action-adventure series,  Captain Barbell (CB), has a lot of ‘new’ things to offer to its viewers. There are new characters – super villains and super heroes.  Before, CB was just ran on a small town story line, now the plots revolves around Metro Manila settings. Whereas previously, the challenges to the lead characters were just school based types, now there is a sense of maturity among the characters.

“Each show has its own edge. As for Captain Barbell, it offers inspiration to a lot of kids and it has a different story. I’m proud to say that in Captain Barbell we are using advance computer generated outputs. Our government and law enforcers go high=tech,” Richard Gutierrez said.

Gutierrez has done many fantaserye projects like Mulawin, Zorro, and Capatin Barbell, but he is now considering more mature roles.

“I’m thinking of moving out from fantaserye characters after this (Captain Barbell). I’m looking forward to more mature roles,” Guitierrez said.

Michelle Madrigal’s Goals

Unlike Richard who comes to Bicol for leisure, Michelle always goes to Bicol for work.  The last time she was in Bicol, they got stranded in Caramoan because of a forthcoming typhoon. Aside from this unforgettable experience, Michelle definitely loves laing pizza and wakeboarding at CWC.

Michelle would want to visit Bicol, especially CWC to spend more time practicing skateboarding. “Since we arrived early yesterday, I practiced wakeboarding. I envy those little kids who are good at it.  I told myself, if these kids can do it, why can’t I? My goal is to learn and master skateboarding,” Madrigal said.

Michelle’s enjoys her role in Captain Barbell as one of the super humans and a member of the League of Freedom (Liga ng Kalayaan).  “I get to play with my character.  I got to wear costumes. It’s every little girl’s dream,” Madrigal said.

Because of her role as super human, Michelle was inspired to do more action scenes. “Sometimes, I request for more action scenes,” she said.  Though she misses doing heavy drama, she wants to have more action projects with more fight scenes like the movie Tomb Raider.

The Other Side of Ervic Vijandre

Ervic Vijandre was known as one of the celebrity survivors.  Captain Barbell is his first project after the reality show Survivor.  Ervic is thankful for whatever role is given to him and he makes sure he studies the role before portraying it.  If given a chance to choose a project, Ervic wants to be do horror movies.

“I’m just curious how it is made.  And I’m afraid of horror movies. Before, I would take my younger sibling with me when I watch horror movies. I’m not afraid of the living, I’m afraid of the dead,” Vijandre shared.

TJ Trinidad’s Dream Job

TJ Trinidad enjoys his role as a villain in Captain Barbell. He feels better because he is not typecast as a “good boy.”

“I like doing anything, romantic, heavy drama, action, and different types of genres. Actually, I don’t have a dream role, a dream job rather. I want to be part of a Hollywood production,” Trinidad said.

At 7:00 pm, the Kapuso Stars proceeded to Capitol Grounds in Cadlan, Pili for the Kapuso Night where the band Shamrock jammed with the Bicolanos doing alternative rock songs.  Mike “Pekto” Nacua and Pepito Manaloto’sJohn Feir hosted the event.
