Huge shipment of coco lumber seized in Camarines Norte

DAET, CAMARINES NORTE (May 05 2012) – Some 1,200 board feet of undocumented coco lumber consisting of over 200 sawn flitches with 2x3x12 dimensions were seized by the Sta. Elena Municipal Police Station personnel and an agent of the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) in this province, while being transported by motorboat along the river banks of barangay San Lorenzo, Sta. Elena, Cam. Norte.

Sta. Elena, Police Senior Insp. Sandie Delfinado Caparroso said in a report on Wednesday (May 2) that the transporter of the huge quantity of coco lumber a certain Willie Arzuelo, a lumber dealer from Del Pilar, Capalonga town is now charged for violation of Republic Act 8048, the law regulating the use of coco lumber products.

It was also reported that the huge quantity of coco lumber were being transported by motorboat to neighboring towns in Camarines Norte province.

This year, Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) regional manager Eduardo B. Allorde launched a campaign to curb the indiscriminate cutting of coconut trees and a ban was earlier implemented in the province of Albay. (SONNY SALES)
