GMA Network wins 9 honors in 1st PUP Mabini Media Awards

The Kapuso network earned a total of nine accolades in the first-ever Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) Mabini Media Awards on Feb. 13.

Broadcast journalist Jessica Soho, GMA Network’s First Vice President for News Programs, was named Best Television Female News Program Anchor for GMA News TV’s flagship newscast, State of the Nation.

She was also recognized as Best Television Magazine Program Host for her work in the top-rating magazine show, Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, which was awarded Best Television Magazine Program.

Veteran anchor Mel Tiangco, for her part, was named Best Television Public Affairs Program Host for the weekly celebrity-profile program, Powerhouse.

Meanwhile, Jay Taruc took the award for Best Television Male News Program Reporter. Taruc hosts the weekly travel-docu, Motorcycle Diaries, and is part of the documentary team for i-Witness, which was cited as Best Television Documentary Program.

PUP students also gave their nod to the public affairs show, Wish Ko Lang, for Best Television Public Service Program.

Rounding up the list of Kapuso winners are the long-running entertainment shows Bubble Gang and Eat Bulaga, which won Best Television Comedy Program and Best Television Variety Program honors, respectively.

Launched in commemoration of Gat Apolinario Mabini’s 150th birth anniversary, the PUP Mabini Awards seek to inspire its communication students by honoring the best in television, radio, print, online and advertising.

Winners of the first Mabini Awards were determined by the votes of 12,000 PUP students.
