This Thursday (April 7), Reporter’s Notebook looks into the violent dispersal of protesting farmers that took place in Kidapawan City last April 1.
According to the Commission on Human Rights, three were killed and more than 90 were injured among the protesters. More than 100 policemen were reported injured with three in critical condition.
Majority of the farmers who were in the rally were complaining of hunger. The rice fields they work in have been severely affected by El Niño, which had been affecting the country since 2015. But until now, many have yet to receive assistance from the government. In some areas in Mindanao where Reporter’s Notebook went to last February, farmers almost have nothing left to eat. Even the farmers in North Cotabato are suffering.
What really caused the violence in Kidapawan City? What is the government doing to address El Niño? Watch “Karahasan sa Kidapawan,” this Thursday (April 7) on Reporter’s Notebook, after Saksi on GMA 7.
