3 caught for illegal fishing in Catanduanes

LEGAZPI CITY, Nov. 8 (PNA) -- Elements of San Andres Municipal Police Station (MPS) led by PO1 Ahdel D. Idanan and Philippine Coast Guard led by SN2 Rudy R. Hombre arrested three fishermen while in the act of fishing with the use of noxious/poisonous plant locally known as “tigaw” at Pier Site, Barangay San Roque, San Andres, Catanduanes on Thursday morning.

Arrested were Pedro V. Sorreda, Alvin S. Valeza and Ferdinand M. Gonzalez -- all residents of Barangay Esperanza, San Andres, Catanduanes.

The law enforcers confiscated from their possession two kilos of catfish (locally known as patuna); tigaw leaves, one banca with two paddles and one small fishing net.

They brought the suspects and the confiscated items to San Andres MPS for proper disposition.

On advice of the San Andres Municipal Agriculture officer, the confiscated fish and leaves of the poisonous plant will be brought to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Office in Quezon City for further examination. (PNA) SCS/FGS/EMC/CBD
