TABACO CITY, Oct. 16 (PNA) -- “I will never leave the First District of Albay!”

This was stressed by Rep. Edcel “Grez” Lagman (Liberal Party, 1st District, Albay) after his father Edcel C. Lagman (LP) filed the latter’s Certificate of Candidacy (CoC) as representative for the district on Monday.

The elder Lagman was a former six-term congressman of the district.

The younger Lagman said that as district chairman of the LP of the First (1st) District of Abay, "I will be the hands-on, 24/7 campaign manager of the whole official Liberal Party slate. I will be present in all the major campaign sorties. I will tirelessly campaign in the island and upland barangays. I will mobilize the youth, women, farmer and fisher folk, urban poor, senior citizens and other marginalized sectors to support all LP candidates and ensure that they win the elections.”

Lagman has also been tapped by LP standard-bearer and presidential candidate Mar A. Roxas to help in his presidential campaign in Albay.

“I am honored by his trust and confidence in me to deliver effectively the party’s message of 'Daang Matuwid' and the need to build on its gains and to continue, even surpass, the same during his expected incumbency as the next president of our republic. It goes without saying that I will also ensure a Leni Robredo victory in my district,” he said in reaction to his additional work in Albay.

Robredo is Lagman’s colleague in Congress and has strong showing in Albay.

Lagman also disclosed that the reason for his temporary rest from public service is his desire to pursue a Masters in Law degree either in the United States or in Singapore.

“This opportunity to further my legal education actually turned out to be providential. I was able to endorse my father, a respected statesman and well-loved national figure. He will once again represent the First District of Albay with excellence and distinction in the House of Representatives. He will greatly contribute to the crafting of quality legislation and in enriching our country’s public life,” he said.

Commenting on his being active in the campaign trail, Lagman underscored, “It goes without saying that my commitment to be an effective campaign manager for Team LP Albay-Primero Distrito takes precedence overall my other academic and professional considerations in the future."

He said his marching order is to provide all possible avenues that will boost the chances of the winning of all LP candidates in his district and ensure that they all support the party’s presidential and vice-presidential bets as well as its senatorial slate.

Moreover, Lagman also said that his public service programs will no be term-limited, pointing out that even after his term ends on June 30, 2016, he will still serve his district albeit in a private capacity.

He plans to help his district by securing scholarship programs from corporate sponsors with proven corporate social responsibility to support his First Congressional District of Albay Scholarship Foundation and undertake allied socio-economic, civic and health programs like medical and dental missions, feeding, nutrition and livelihood programs through his BagongDugoBagongPag-asa Foundation.

“Anyway, I will return to my district to serve my constituents again in Congress when the opportune time comes, the district that I love, the district that I will always nurture and cherish in and outside the halls of Congress," Lagman said.

He added, "I will never forsake Albay even as I will make sure that my constituents will feel that it is as if I never took a leave from serving them when my term ends.”(PNA) LAP/FGS/MSA/CBD #roxasrobredo2016
