NAGA CITY, April 17 (PIA)--- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Camarines Sur Provincial Office launched yesterday an initiative that aims to encourage stakeholders to collaboratively adopt sterner measures to counter the ill-effects of climate change specifically for micro, small and medium enterprises in the province.

Dubbed “green economic development”, the concept wishes to introduce the idea of a green economy pursuant to environmentally-friendly practices.  The movers of this campaign believe that economic growth can still be achieved while preventing irreparable environment degradation and without sacrificing biodiversity loss and the unscrupulous use of natural resources.

DTI Provincial Director Edna Tejada during yesterday’s launch of the Promotion of Green Economic Development (ProGED) at the Avenue Plaza Hotel here, has invited representatives from the academe, businessmen, heads of various agencies, media and various offices and other stakeholders to help promote their agency’s newest campaign.

“We have been doing advocacies for green initiatives but this one aims to call  the attention of the business sector.  We want to prove that green enterprises can be incorporated in their business. We believe that the more we advocate for the preservation of our environment, the more that we can enhance the competitiveness of our enterprises,” Tejada said in an interview.

Camarines Sur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CSCCI) President Engineer Solomon C. Ngo expressed the chamber’s full support to this undertaking. He lauded the DTI’s initiative and enjoined every businessman to optimize the global trend of green economy and pursue innovation without sacrificing the state of our environment.

“As we all know, the trade landscape in the Philippines is fast changing with the times. Our country is undergoing dramatic changes and the trade revolution is just warming up. Manufacturing and production of goods today require very sophisticated supply chains and adaptive green economy - an economy that results in reducing environmental risks – an economy that aims for sustainable development without degrading the environment and an economy that is efficient and fair,” Ngo added.

Businessmen who are already practicing green economy were also invited to deliver their testimonies on the positive effect of adopting green economy in their commerce.

DTI Regional Director Joy Blanco uttered her optimism that the campaign will gain the full support of the Camarinenses and Naguenos who are known for their active engagement in similar crusades.

“We are positive that our constituents here are always in the forefront of doing something new.  We hope that after this launch, we will have more advocators who will help us spread the news that we don’t need to destroy the one and only Mother Earth that we have in exchange of progress.” (LSMacatangay, PIAV/Camarines Sur)
