Twelve celebrities; five challenging games; two competing teams; and one premiere summer destination—these phrases basically sum up GMA Network’s recently concluded “Kapuso Weekend” held in the City of Dapitan, Zamboanga del Norte on March 20 to 21.

With summer’s heat in full swing, some of today’s hottest Kapuso stars have experienced great ways to stay cool: dipping at the turquoise blue saltwater and strolling along the powdery white sand of the world-renowned Dakak Park and Beach Resort.

Setting leisure aside, the celebrities also gathered for a sporting event that turned out to be a battle between two teams—Aliguay and Dakak—headed by Mike Tan and LJ Reyes, respectively.

The Kapuso stars chosen to become part of Team Aliguay were Alden Richards, Gwen Zamora, JC Tiuseco, Mark Herras, and Rochelle Pangilinan. Team Dakak, on the other hand, was composed of Andrea Torres, Benjamin Alves, Geoff Eigenmann, Louise delos Reyes, and Rafael Rosell.

For two days, Aliguay and Dakak played head to head matches against each other through the Tri Fit Relay, Dakak Honeymoon Relay, Kayak O’yan, Take it Off, and Kapuso Outdoor Challenge. Everyone in attendance, locals and tourists alike, were amazed at the skills the two teams exhibited.

Team Aliguay, after managing to win three out of the five games, were hailed champion at the conclusion of the Kapuso Weekend. In a simple ceremony, Geoff and Gwen received their individual awards as Most Valuable Players.

When Gwen was asked to name her top travel destination in the country, she replied: “I would say Dakak is my perfect summer vacation. Seriously! The weather here is nice and I would definitely come back here.”

Benjamin, for his part, couldn’t agree more. “I really think Dakak is a nice place. Sana next time makabalik ako. It’s really so close to paradise and I wish to have more time here. With the Kapuso Weekend naman, walang kapaguran na competition ang na-experience namin, sobrang nakakapagod pero it was fun at the same time.”

Louise, a self-confessed beach lover, shared: “First time kong magpunta sa Dakak at sobrang nag-enjoy ako. Niloloko ko nga ‘yung mga kasama ko, sabi ko dati nababasa ko lang ang Dakak sa libro. Ngayong nakita ko na, sabi ko maganda talaga, mamahalin nga talaga ni Rizal ito. Saka during our stay in the resort may na-experience kaming something cool. Naghanap kami ng glow in the dark na sand, na-amaze ako kasi meron talaga.”

Meanwhile, amidst the soothing sound of the waves breaking against Dakak’s shore, the Kapuso stars also enjoyed dancing and jamming with fans through the Kapuso Zumba on day one and the Kapuso Reggae Night on the second.

And apart from playing hard and getting down and dirty in the beach games, they also bannered two Kapuso Nights at the end of each day held at Gloria’s Fantasyland, Dapitan City’s world-class theme park where fans eagerly cheered on them all throughout their production numbers. They did not disappoint their supporters as they performed a series of thrilling and engaging segments.

Serving as event hosts for the two-day revelry were Kapuso comedians Mike “Pekto” Nacua and Boobay, together with disk jockey Rico Robles.

“We’re proud and honored to have been given the opportunity to mount big summer activities in Western Mindanao. We would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to Dakak Park and Beach Resort and Gloria’s Fantasyland not just for trusting GMA Network with this project but also for being wonderful and accommodating hosts as well. Without the full support of our Kapusong Dapitanons, the Kapuso Weekend in Dapitan would not have been possible,” said Oliver Amoroso, Head of Regional Strategy and Business Development Division.

Highlights of the “Kapuso Weekend in Dapitan” will be seen in a two-part Let’s Fiesta TV Special airing on April 12 and 19 via all nine regional stations in Bicol, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Dagupan, Ilocos, GenSan, Bacolod, and CDO.
