Super Typhoon Maysak enters PAR

Naga City April 1, 2015 11:56 P.M. - Slightly weakened but still of Super Typhoon status, Maysak has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) just a few minutes ago and is now locally named Typhoon Chedeng, according to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

PAGASA says it will raise Public Storm Warning Signal #1 over Bicol and Samar Provinces Within the next 18 hours and sea travel over these areas will be possibly suspended. Chedeng is projected to land along the eastern coast of Aurora, Quezon or Isabela by late Saturday (April 4) to early Sunday (April 5).

At 11:00 PM today, the center of Typhoon “Chedeng” was located based on all available data at 1,015 km East Northeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar or 1,040 km East of Borongan City, Eastern Samar (11.9°N, 135.0°E). Maximum sustained winds of 180 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 215 kph near are expected as Chedeng moves West Northwest at 19 kph.

The Aurora-Quezon area shall be on watch for possible flashfloods over low-lying areas and landslides along mountain slopes.

PAGASA advises fishermen not to venture out in the open sea over the eastern seaboard of Bicol Region and of Visayas.
