Filipinos must oppose measures that go against the basic values of life and marriage, said Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma, vice president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).

Filling his shoes is 61-year old Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma, the current vice president of the bishops’ collegial body.

In electing Palma as the CBCP president, the bishops broke a long-time practice in the Catholic hierarchy.

By tradition, Odchimar is supposed to assume the presidency for two terms or a cumulative of four years.

This was revealed by Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) yesterday. According to reports, the previous management of the agency purchased the vehicles out of its charity fund under questionable justifications.

In the same occassion, Rev. Fr. Victor P. Atanacio is installed as its first parish priest who shall minister to around 15,000 parishioners from the barangays of Bagacay, Buyo, Caaluan, Cawaynan, Bulao-Balite, Canayonan, Mananao and Cawayan.

It’s great that Ateneo will be hosting a non-political, private sector summit on the proposed partition of Camarines Sur into two provinces through a new province covering the fourth legislative district in the Caramoan Peninsula. Indeed, ABOUT TIME we divided Cam Sur. But, of course, the devil will be in the details. Hence, the conference could very well thresh all these things out in time for the next session of Congress.

We will know if He is truly born in us, if we are able to look forward for the coming New Year with great hope. Love is truly powerful for it is “the greatest of them all” (Corinthians 13:13). Let us fill this New Year with the love we learned from Jesus this Christmas.

It is often a spectacular scene to behold how the revered Christmas season lightens up the souls of people, enabling each one of us to sing a happy Christmas tune. For a time it helps us forget the daily grind and complexities of life. But then again the Christmas spirit is not simply a feeling to enjoy. It is an encounter with a person. Love which is the cause of this joyful season ceases to be a vague idea or feeling but is now born in flesh, in the person of Jesus.

In order to clarify what the faithful might perceive as a change in the position of the Church on the use of condoms, the Archdiocese of Caceres issues this statement.

In an interview regarding his new book entitled “Light of the World: the Pope, the Church and the Signs of the Times,” Pope Benedict XVI said that the use of condoms may be a sign of moral responsibility in some specific situations when the intention is to reduce the risk of HIV infection. In order to clarify what the faithful might perceive as a change in the position of the Church on the use of condoms, the Archdiocese of Caceres issues this statement.

Heherson Alvarez, Presidential Adviser on Global Warming and Climate Change Secretary said that Rosales is recognized as an instrument of environmental activism.

The awarding ceremony will be held at the NBN 4 studio in Visayas Avenue, Quezon City on April 18, 2009.
