Poll body taps PPCRV for voters' listing

MANILA--The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has accredited a church-based poll watchdog that would help them in the ongoing voters’ registration for the 2010 elections.

The Comelec en banc approved, in a resolution dated Feb. 19, the petition by the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) to be its citizen’s arm.

In its seven-page resolution, the poll body said, “The PPCRV has participated in the past electoral exercises where it has ably demonstrated its capacity to promote the public interest and to assist the Commission in the performance of its functions and activities, there is no reason to withhold accreditation to the said entity as citizens’ arm for purposes of the resumption of the general registration of voters.”

The PPCRV is charged by the Comelec to act as watchers during registration and to assist the poll body in forming the civic conscience of the Filipino voters and in their education campaign concerning registration. (CBCPNews)
