MANILA, Philippines – WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire Jr. continued his rise to boxing’s upper echelon, knocking out Mexican Jorge Arce in three rounds to retain his title today at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.

Donaire started out the fight feeling Arce out, landing a couple of big counters to easily pocket the opening round. In a brief exchange, the Filipino American then decked the Mexican in the second round with a short right hand counter, with both of Arce’s gloves touching the canvas. The latter briefly protested the knockdown and pressed on to survive the round.

MANILA, Philippines  (UPDATED) – It’s sweeter the second time around.

The Philippine Azkals lived up to the promise as they booked a return trip to the semifinals of the Asean Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup with a historic 2-nil win over Myanmar late Friday night at the end of the group stages at the Supachalasai National Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

The Azkals’ first win over Myanmar after three draws and eight losses since 1971 rewarded them with the first ever Suzuki Cup semifinal match at home, which was denied in 2010 against Indonesia for lack of suitable playing venue.

Marquez’ handlers at Zanfer Promotions posting recent pictures of the Mexican in training, ripped and loaded with muscles, must have made others change their minds.

As Pacquiao and Marquez started promoting the fight last September, the 39-year-old Mexican opened up as a clear underdog at +300.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Timothy Bradley promised to shock, though the biggest shock in his fight with Manny Pacquiao came from the judges' scorecards.

In a fight Pacquiao seemed to have in hand, two judges decided otherwise, giving Bradley a split decision Saturday night and ending the Filipino fighter's remarkable seven-year unbeaten run.

Promoter Bob Arum fumed, the crowd at the MGM Grand arena booed, and Pacquiao seemed stunned when the decision was announced. Arum said there would be a November rematch, though he blasted the way the decision went down.

"I've never been as ashamed of the sport of boxing as I am tonight," said Arum, who handles both fighters.

MANILA, Philippines (Feb 5, 2012) - Fighting for the first time in the 122-lb division, Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire Jr. failed to knockout Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. but nonetheless lifted the WBO super bantamweight belt today via split decision at the Alamodome in Texas.

Saved for a slip in the second round, Donaire dominated the fight with his speed and solid punches. Vazquez, however, hung tough with his jabs that almost shut down Donaire's right eye.

Filipino mountain climber Romi Garduce recently made a heroic comeback from his trip to the Antarctic Region after making it as the first and only Filipino to banner the Philippine flag atop the world's highest peaks. His most recent conquest was the Vinson Massif or Mt. Vinson - the 16,067-foot mountain lying in the Sentinel Range of the Ellsworth Mountains.

The Vinson Expedition concludes his 10-year quest to conquer the Seven Summits - the collective reference to the world's highest mountains located in the seven continents. The climb makes Romi the 15th Asian to complete the prestigious mountaineering record.

FORT BONIFACIO, Taguig City (Jan 23, 2012) -- Showing its dominance in the local Dragon Boat racing, the Philippine Army Dragon Boat Team outclassed its rivals in the 4th leg of the Annual Dragon Boat Championship held in Manila bay today.

The soldier-powered 20-man crew of paddlers bagged its championship trophy after clocking 48:00 seconds in the final heat of the 300 meter Men's event. Team DLSU followed with 50.51secs, Team Onslaught with 50.73secs and Team RCP with 55.56secs.

The Philippines finally puts on record a historic feat in the elite adventure sport of mountaineering. This after renowned Filipino mountain climber Romi Garduce officially set foot atop Mt. Vinson Massif in the Antarctic Region on January 5 at 6:45pm, Antarctica time (January 6, 5:45am, Philippine time) - officially completing his historic "Seven Summit" quest after long 10 years.

According to a recent blogpost by mountain climbing and trekking guide service Mountain Madness, Romi's team summitted the 16,067-foot alpine mountain lying in the Sentinel Range of the Ellsworth Mountains amid a cold -26 degree Celsius weather.

MANILA, Philippines (Jan 8, 2012) - More cohesive and showing better game shape, visiting team Spanish Tercera division club CF Internacional de Madrid outclassed Philippine Azkals-Alyansa, 3-1, in a charity match at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium yesterday.

The Spaniards buried the Pinoys with two goals in the first 45 minutes then added a third a minute aftere the break to dispose of the Filipinos before an estimated 8,000 spectators who watched live in support of the fund-raiser for victims of typhoon “Sendong” in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan.

MANILA, Philippines (Dec 11, 2011) – The referee stopped the fight early in the eight round as Filipino-Hawaiian Brian “The Hawaiian Punch” Viloria  viciously battered the challenger Giovanni Seguravia of Mexico.

Proving that his win last July was no fluke, Viloria successfully defended his WBO flyweight title against his Mexican challenger via TKO in the eight round of a scheduled 12-round title fight today in the Ynares Sports Center in Pasig City.

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — David Beckham lifted a trophy in what could be his final game for the Los Angeles Galaxy as his side beat Australian A-League side the Melbourne Victory on penalties in a friendly match Tuesday.

The 36-year-old former England captain was given the man of the match award after the Galaxy's 4-3 shootout win following a 2-2 draw.

Beckham didn't score but provided several classy touches. He is out of contract at the end of the Galaxy's season and hasn't yet where he will play next year. He is understood to be weighing offers to remain in the United States or to join the French club Paris St. Germain.

MANILA, Philippines - It was a moonless and starless Saturday night but it was all dazzling and bright at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadim as the Los Angeles Galaxy battled the Philippine Azkals.

The final scoreline was Galaxy: 6, Azkals: 1. But that hardly mattered to some 9,000 spectators as they got to see English superstar David Beckham dazzle with nifty moves for a good 75 minutes.
