This year's tercentenary celebration for Bikolandia's most revered Patroness, Nuestra Señora de Peñafrancia, more popularly known as 'Ina,, will not be totally complete without making mention of the two historic bells adorning the belfry of the centuries-old Our Lady of Peñafrancia Shrine in Naga City.

The two antique and ancient bells were donated in 1863 and 1868 by Simon Li Tuanqui, a successful Chinese trader-philanthropist converted to the Catholic faith and who has since become a devotee of 'Ina'.

The Ateneo de Naga University's Rayan Abogado Oliva ranked first nationwide in the Nursing Licensure Examinations held last July 3-4, 2010.

A member of the BSN Class 2010, Oliva graduated Magna Cum Laude.

Out of the 138 examinees, 97 passed or 70.29% against the national passing rate of 41.40%.  Of the 97 passers, 68 are first takers (77.27%).

Among those who made it to the distinguished top 10 in Region V were Mr. Clinton Rabadon of Bicol University and Ms. Dioliza Sacil of Universidad de Sta. Isabel - both ranked 10th.

Naga City - Fr. Andrew Recepcion, a priest from the Archdiocese of Caceres has been elected president of the International Association of Catholic Missiologists (IACM) during the organization's fourth conference and assembly last 27 July to 1 August at Tagaytay City.

Recepcion, the Mission Director of the Archdiocese, was one among 80 participants coming from varied parts of the world engaged in Catholic mission activities.

Recepcion also currently serves as the Executive Secretary of the Tercentenary Celebration Committee.

Looking forward to an exciting event, the University of Northeastern Philippines gears up for the celebration of the week-long 2010 Collegiate Intramurals comes August 24, 2010.  The sports competition will take place inside the vast university ground and is expected to give UNEPians the real test of agility in the arena of skills and sports.

In line with this, various university departments and committees are now preparing for their respective tasks to ensure the success and university-wide participation of the whole UNEP community in the said competition.

Naga City (22 August) - Organizers of the Miss Bicolandia pageant are mourning the sudden and tragic death in a vehicular accident of reigning Bb. Pilipinas-International Melody Gersbach yesterday.

Gersbach was headed to Naga City from Legazpi City in order to attend the screening of this year's candidates to the Ms. Bicolandia pageant when the vehicle she was on, a Toyota Innova, was hit head-on by a Guevarra Lines minibus along Sitio Banasi, Brgy. Pawili, Bula town.

Naga City (17 Aug) - With the opening of the first Annual Bishop Francisco Gainza Trade Fair nearing, the signing of its memorandum of agreement (MOA) among partner-organizers took place today at the Event Center of SM City Naga.

The MOA was signed by Msgr. Nelson Tria, Chair of the Bishop Gainza Trade Fair; Ms. Edna Tejada, Provincial Director of DTI Camarines Sur; and Engr. Wesley Christian Villanueva, Asst. Mall Manager of SM City Naga.

Naga City (20 Aug) -- The Archdiocese of Caceres will launch commemorative stamps to mark the 300 years of devotion of the Bikolanos to Our Lady of Penafrancia on September 11, 2010 at the Holy Rosary Minor Seminary, at 10 o'clock in the morning.

The Philippine Postal Corporation granted the issuance of commemorative stamps in four different designs, plus other philatelic products such as first day issue, souvenir sheets, souvenir folders and souvenir frames.

The Postmaster General Hector Villanueva and Most Rev. Leonardo Legaspi, OP, DD, shall grace the occasion.

Bishop Francisco Gainza Trade Fair invites Bikolano entrepreneurs and exhibitors on September 9 to 20, 2010 at SM City Naga Open Parking A, B & C.  The trade fair will feature processed food, homestyle and living (furniture, gifts, toys, housewares and wearables), tourism services, organic and natural products, religious and souvenir items.

Institutions such as LGUs, government agencies, nongovernment organizations, banks, financing institutions, foundations and similar organizations are also invited to present their programs, services and advocacies.

Sorsogon City- The Department of Energy is reviving its long-shelved project to explore the geothermal potential around Bulusan Volcano, a DOE official said in a recent visit here.

Ariel Fronda, head of the DOE's Geothermal Energy Management Division, said the project is being pursued again as part of the government's efforts to utilize renewable energy.

The exploration project has been awarded to SKI Construction Group, a Filipino-owned company

In celebration of the 300th year of Peñafrancia Devotion and the 70th year of Ateneo de Naga University, the AdNU Choir will launch its first album in a musical performance on Friday, July 30, 2010, 7pm, at the Church of Christ the King, Ateneo Campus.

City of Naga - Mayor John G. Bongat assumed his office on Thursday, July 1 after winning a landslide victory in the May 10 polls.

The mayor started his first official day in office with a press conference where he presented the Naga SMILES promotions program as well as changes to his administration line-up.

Talking before members of the media, Bongat explained the Naga SMILES campaign, which he said was the product of weeks of constant discussion and consultation with other city officials and employees.

The first "Bishop Francisco Gainza Trade Fair" which would showcase the best of Bikol products is set to be conducted on September 9 to 20, 2010 at the Open Parking Area of SM City Naga from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm.

The activity is named in honor of Bishop Gainza who pioneered the first agricultural and industrial expo in Bikol in 1875 as a feature of the Peñafrancia Festivities.

City of Naga - Mayor John G. Bongat launched Naga's latest promotion campaign on his first day of work as the eighth chief executive of the city.

The city mayor presented the "Naga SMILES to the World" promotions campaign to members of the media on the morning of July 1, his first official day in office.
