NAGA CITY, Dec. 12 (PIA) --- After Typhoon Ruby calmed down, there is no stopping this city from celebrating the Christmas season through the various colorful activities lined up for the Kamundagan Festival.
The Kamundagan Festival is an annual celebration of the city featuring its traditional cultures while showcasing the values that shaped the customs of every Nagueño. This seemingly “throwback” feature endeavors to give the young generation the glimpse of their past so that significant memoirs of it will serve as a reminder of their roots.
Naga City First Lady Farah Bongat, Chair of the Kamundagan Festival said that the activity will highlight Naga’s best – from the food delicacies through the Food Bazaar and the celebration of good harvest through the agro-industrial fair to the various contest that aims to strengthen the camaraderie and cooperation amongst the constituents of the City’s 27 barangays.
The first lady is also encouraging each family to tag along their children at the Plaza Quezon and witness the beautifully lighted Christmas Village depicting the wide-ranging celebration of Christmas.
The Festival also coincides with the City’s Charter anniversary and has been celebrated since 1992.
This year’s celebration started with a holy mass held at the Immaculate Concepcion Parish and was followed by a Christmas parade in the main thoroughfares of the City. Earlier, the angels and Christmas lanterns located at the Panganiban Rotonda were also lighted.
Other activities lined up for the celebration include the 1st Kamundagan Festival Regional Invitational CAT Military Parade Marching Competition spearheaded by the Bicol Federation of Active and Reserve PMT Commandants and Instructor’s League, Federation of Philippine Eagles Club in cooperation with the city government of Naga under the auspices of Mayor John G. Bongat, the Kamundagan Festival Committee headed by Naga’s First Lady and Department of Education (DepEd).
The much anticipated Kamundagan Santa Fun Walk on Saturday and Parade of Characters will start at 4pm at Panganiban Drive. Students are given a P50.00 registration fee inclusive of a free Santa Hat, P100.00 for the general public and an additional P100.00 for those who want to have the Kamundagan shirt.
Every night, the audience will be entertained by various groups who pledged to offer their time and talent to send cheers to those who will drop by the Christmas village. Lined up for the upcoming nights are Camella Brokers' Night, 9th Infantry Division Christmas Presentation, Naga View Adventist Church Christmas Presentation and the Naga City Chorale Presentation.
